It is possible to end the rapidly expanding monkeypox outbreak, a World Health Organization official said on Tuesday. Rosamund Lewis, WHO Technical Lead on Monkeypox, stated to a source, “We do at this point still believe that this epidemic of monkeypox can be stopped with the appropriate methods in the right groups but time is going by and we all need to pull together to make that happen.”
According to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the epidemic is the highest degree of alert for a global health emergency. A “public health emergency of international concern,” as defined by the WHO, is intended to prompt a coordinated global response and may make money available for cooperation on the sharing of vaccinations and treatments.
“The WHO is still trying to find a global coordination system. It’s a topic that’s still being discussed right now, “added Lewis. The virus was first discovered in monkeys and is primarily spread through intimate contact with an infected person. The viral illness has just recently started to spread outside of Africa, where it is endemic.
However, news of a few cases in Britain in early May indicated that the outbreak had spread to Europe. More than 75 nations have reported more than 16,000 confirmed cases of monkeypox this year. Lewis asserted that the actual figure was probably higher. There have been five reported deaths, all of which happened in Africa.
