Which nations have reported cases of the viral illness monkeypox?

The viral disease monkeypox is rapidly spreading over Europe and North America. According to the World Health Organization, the infection causes fever, severe headaches, and swollen lymph nodes, with a three to six percent death rate.

Close contact with respiratory secretions and skin sores allows the disease to spread from one person to another.

“Transmission by droplet respiratory particles typically necessitates lengthy face-to-face contact, putting health workers, household members, and other close contacts of active cases at greater risk,” according to the WHO.

The virus is most commonly found in Central and West Africa, but it can also be found in other parts of the world, according to the WHO.

Monkeypox cases have been found in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Sweden, Spain, and Portugal in the most recent outbreak.

According to the news agency AFP, there are at least a dozen probable Monkeypox cases in Canada. On May 19, two of them were confirmed.

According to CNN, the US has confirmed one case so far: a patient with a history of travel to Canada.

According to AFP, at least seven cases of monkeypox have been detected in the United Kingdom.

Transmission has been observed among gay men, according to WHO expert Ibrahima Soce Fall.

“(It’s) new information that we need to study thoroughly in order to better understand the dynamic of local transmission in the UK and other countries,” he told AFP.

Over 40 cases of monkeypox have been reported in Spain and Portugal so far. The disease could also be transmitted through sexual activities, according to Spanish health officials.

On May 19, Italy and Sweden verified their first cases of monkeypox.
Is Monkeypox, however, preventable or treatable?
