The defending-champions and host Australia embark the clashes of super 12 in T20 World Cup on October 22 against last edition runners-up New Zealand at Sydney Cricket Ground. In another match of the day, England will face Afghanistan at Perth Stadium.
In Australia and New Zealand training session in Sydney, the forecast rain had arrived which forced Kane & Co for indoor practices. Hope that the much-awaited second stage, the main draw, of the tournament doesn’t get off to a wet start.
In Sydney, history says, Australia is a formidable side and a much stronger side than they did while winning their maiden title last year. Kiwi’s Captain & Co need something extra and special to stop the Aussies, for giving themselves a winning start. Neither Australia will dare to take on their trans-Tasman rivals lightly who have been performing exceptionally well in ICC tournaments without the tag of favourites.
The qualifying round was very successful in which four teams moved forward – Ireland, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka & Netherlands. The biggest upset of qualifying round was that the most successful team in T20 World Cup and two-times Champions West Indies got knocked out losing to Scotland and Ireland.
The main stage of T20 World Cup 2022 is Super 12. There are two groups comprising 6-teams each. Top 4 teams from both the groups will further qualify for Semi-finals. Finally, two winners of semi-finals will clash for the title – T20 World Cup 2022 at Melbourne Cricket Ground on November 13. The winning team will get a cash prize of 13- crores whereas the runners-up guaranteed half the amount.
India will clash against their arch-rivals Pakistan on October 23 at MCG. Report says, there is a chance of rain and it may spoil the colours of the mother of all clashes. Fans hope and fingers are crossed that a proper T20 match could happen and India take the revenge of T20 World Cup 2021 loss in Dubai last year.
