Margaret Alva, former cabinet minister, has been chosen as the joint opposition’s candidate for the upcoming Vice-President Elections on August 6th. She also held the office as Governor of Goa, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.
Sharad Pawar, Chief of the Nationalist Congress Party, announced that Alva was unanimously chosen to be a candidate for the post of Vice President on Sunday. Alva, 80, affirmed the news on Twitter:
The National Democratic Alliance announced Jagdeep Dhankar, currently serving as Governor of West Bengal, as their Vice-presidential candidate, on Saturday. For the Presidential Election, Draupadi Mumru will represent NDA and Yashwant Sinha will represent the joint opposition. Both the parties announced their nominations on the 21st of June. A new president will be elected on Monday.
