Vice President Election 2022- Notification issue for the election of Vice President, voting will be held on August 6

The Election Commission has announced the dates for the elections to be held this year for the post of Vice President. Notification for this has also been issued. Voting for this election will be held on August 6.

Nomination papers for the elections will be submitted till July 19. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on July 20 and the final list will be published on July 22. Apart from this, the voting process will be held on August 6 from 10 am to 5 pm and the result is expected on the same day.

The tenure of the current Vice President Venkaiah Naidu is ending on August 10. Naidu’s successor will take over during the monsoon session of Parliament and preside over the Upper House as its Speaker. The Election Commission of India has also issued instructions to make Lok Sabha Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh as Returning Officer for the elections.

Voting for the post of Vice President will be held in Parliament. According to Article 66 of the Constitution of India, the Vice President will be elected by the members of the Electoral College. This year, for the 16th Vice-Presidential election, the Electoral College comprises with 233 elected members of the Rajya Sabha, 12 nominated members of the Rajya Sabha and 543 elected members from the Lok Sabha.
