The Philippines, renowned for its white sand beaches and crystal clear waters, has reopened to international tourists after a two-year hiatus.
More than 200 foreign tourists returned to the Philippines on Thursday, marking it as the latest Southeast Asian country to reopen in an effort to revive a wounded tourism industry after its borders were shut to visitors almost two years ago because of the epidemic.
Passengers arriving in from the United States and China to enjoy beaches or unite with family members and friends were received by tourism authorities at Manila’s airport.
“I think it will be a good boost for tourism and the Filipino economy,”

Horse carriage drivers and bike rental owners in Manila’s Walled City of Intramuros were ready for what they anticipated would be a constant stream of visitors to help them recover their losses.
In the Philippines, new coronavirus occurrences have plummeted from over 33,000 per day in September to just over 3,500 each day, with more than half of the country’s 110 million people now thoroughly vaccinated.
Tourists need to provide proof of vaccination but are excluded from quarantine, and travel businesses are hoping that the tide of guests will expand into a torrent, boosting the industry.
