Chennai, TN: The Chief minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, on Tuesday, initiated lifeguard training for the fishermen youth living in the coastal regions. He inaugurated the session for 25 such youths from the Kovalam fishing community in Chengalpattu district via online platform.
Over 1000 youths will be undergoing this crucial and necessary training from over 14 coastal districts throughout Tamil Nadu to tend to emergency situations.
The state ministry of fisheries and fishermen welfare with financial aid from national fisheries development board, ITUS sports and safety Pvt Ltd. has begun this initiative costing over 53 lakhs.
Many precious human lives are lost every year to accidents at the sea shore. To prevent such mishaps and to save their lives, the youths in these district from the fishermen community will be provided adequate training as beach lifeguards, the state government stated.
Further, the youth from theses districts come with natural talent in swimming and pre requisite knowledge as swimmers and hence it will be only enhance them further with techniques taught in the training. They will also be taught important first aid techniques to resuscitate those who need help. Even during any calamities, they can be of service to the people in the coastal regions.
Once training is completed, they can be recruited into coastal security, rescue and coastal resorts for employment oppurtunities.
MSME minister T M Anbarasan, MLA S S Balaji, Chengalpattu district collector A R Rahul Nadh along with other officials were present at Kovalam. Fisheries minister Anitha Radhakrishnan, Chief secretary V Iraianbu and other secretariats joined the video conference.
