Oscar-nominated actor James Caan died on Wednesday aged 82. He is known for his work in Francis Ford Coppola’s universally acclaimed ‘The Godfather’, the film adaptation of Stephen King’s eponymous novel ‘Misery’ and Michael Mann’s ‘Thief’, among others. His passing was shared through his Twitter account on Thursday.
A career spanning decades, Caan’s sole oscar nomination was for playing hot-headed Sonny in ‘The Godfather’.
Actors who shared the screen with him gave out statements about his passing. Al Pacino, his co-star in ‘The Godfather’ called Caan ‘a lifelong friend’.
“Jimmy was my fictional brother and my lifelong friend. It’s hard to believe that he won’t be in the world anymore because he was so alive and daring. A great actor, a brilliant director and my dear friend. I’m gonna miss him.”
