The Delhi government plans to build a 45-kilometer periphery road along the Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary’s border that will serve as a patrol corridor to improve security.
Several incidences of encroachment and trespassing on forest land have been reported by forest officials. “The sanctuary is large and is surrounded by heavily populated areas and villages, including Fatehpur Beri, Bhati Mines, Rajpur Khurd, Jaunapur, Chandan Hula, and Asola Gaon.” There are also farmhouses and function venues in the area. Several incidences of encroachment and trespassing on forest land have occurred… At night, antisocial elements cause trouble. As a result, this corridor will assist us in safeguarding the area,” said a senior forest department official.
On the Delhi-Haryana boundary, the sanctuary is located on the South Delhi Ridge area of the Aravalli range. It measures 32.71 square kilometres and covers 6,784 acres.
We currently have minor patrol paths, but we want to make the region safer. The next one will be a long corridor that will be patrolled at all hours of the day and night. It will only be utilised by forest department employees; no outside cars will be permitted,” the official explained.
The Department of Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) will be in charge of the project’s construction, and tenders have already been issued, according to officials.
The road will be a Water Bound Macadam Road, which is a sort of flexible pavement with crushed stone or broken rock fragments in the foundation and surface layer, according to officials. The official explained, “It’s suited for a vehicle like an SUV or a jeep.“
The project will cost Rs 8.44 crore to complete. Construction will begin after the tendering process is completed in June.
