The concessionaire for the future Noida International Airport, Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), has chosen Tata Projects Ltd to handle the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the new Greenfield airport near Jewar.
“Together with Tata Projects, we’re working to deliver a passenger terminal, runway, and other airport infrastructure with a capacity of 12 million passengers annually, by 2024. We are aiming to enable, promote and strengthen all-inclusive sustainable development of aviation ecosystem in India. Noida International Airport will bolster employment generation and economic growth in the state as well as the country,” said Christoph Schnellmann, Chief Executive Officer, YIAPL.
YIAPL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, which was formed as a Special Purpose Vehicle in order to develop the greenfield Noida International Airport near Jewar. On October 7, 2020, the Uttar Pradesh government signed a concession deal with YIAPL to begin work on the Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar. Together with the Uttar Pradesh government, the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority, and the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority, the corporation is responsible for implementing the Public-Private Partnership project.
While this is Tata Projects’ first major project in the airports sector, the company is also working on the New Parliament Building, the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link, multiple stretches of Dedicated Freight Corridors, and Metro Rail Lines in cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Chennai.
Currently, L&T Construction, a division of Larsen & Toubro, is responsible for much of India’s private airport expansion. L&T Construction has built Delhi’s Terminal-3, Mumbai’s Terminal-2, and Kannur International Airport, among other airport expansion projects in cities such as New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad. The business has also been awarded the contract to construct the Navi Mumbai Greenfield Airport.
