Tajinder Bagga secures relief from the HC just hours after the Mohali Court’s warrant was issued

At a late-night hearing on Saturday, Delhi BJP leader Tajinder Singh Bagga received relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Until the next hearing on May 10, the court ordered that no coercive action be taken against the BJYM leader. This order came only hours after a Mohali court issued a new non-bailable warrant for his arrest and production before the court in connection with a case filed last month.

Meanwhile, supporters from the saffron party held a demonstration outside the residence of Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal, as a political slugfest between the AAP and the BJP escalated into protests.

“Whereas Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, s/o Pritpal Singh, r/o B-1/170, Janak Puri, New Delhi, is charged with an offence punishable under Sections 153-A, 505, 505 (2), and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.”

The judge stated in the judgement, “You are thus commanded to arrest the said Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga and produce him before me.”

The matter will be heard again on May 23.

Bagga, flanked by relatives and friends at his Janakpuri house in the early hours of Saturday, ripped into the Aam Aadmi Party and Kejriwal over his detention, accusing him of pursuing political revenge through the Punjab police.

“No matter if one or 100 FIRs are registered against me, I will keep raising issues of maligning of the Guru Granth Sahib and Kejriwal’s insult to Kashmiri Pandits,” he said, adding, “They (the AAP) are attacking me because I am raising my voice against the AAP and its chief Kejriwal.”

Outside Kejriwal’s home, BJP leaders staged a protest, calling him a “dictator”.  The AAP charged the BJP and its regimes with shielding its “goons”. who instigated riots in Punjab, a border state.

With Bagga’s arrest, Delhi BJP head Adesh Gupta claimed that it was apparent that the AAP’s national convener had “misused” the Punjab Police for personal gain. “Adityanath Kejriwal is a tyrant.” What crime did Bagga commit? He only wanted Kejriwal to clarify his comments on (The) Kashmir Files. “During the arrest, he was not permitted to wear a turban,” Gupta said, adding that the BJP will “not tolerate the insult to the turban.”
