Taiwan Supplies 75% Of Semiconductor Chip To India According To ICEA

According to Sources, Taiwan contributes 75% of the chips India requires for electronic devices like smartphones, as per predictions by the Indian Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), which comprises both domestic and foreign manufacturers. Due to current geopolitical upheaval and supply chain disruption, it is more challenging for India to get chips on time. There are chip constraints in several businesses in India.

India has the greatest rate of smartphone adoption and the largest market for electronic devices. The entry of Indian telecom providers into the 5G market will increase the need for processors. New 5G enabled devices will increase the need for semiconductor chips.

The world’s supply chain is extremely brittle and prone to interruption at any time. Geopolitical conflict and pandemics have both disrupted the chip supply, costing the business a lot of money.

The government is willing to support multiple such projects, according to statements made by Ashwini Vaishnav, the minister of Electronics and Information Technology, a few months ago. He claimed that India would need at least 10 semiconductor production facilities in the future years.

In order to fulfil this objective and promote the nation’s booming automotive and electronic sectors, India announced recently the “India Semiconductor Mission”.  It also aims to make India a centre of global manufacturing and increase participation in the supply chain for semiconductor chips.

Taiwan in Global Position for Semiconductor :

Taiwan’s position is essential for the entire world for a semiconductor chip. According to a Taiwanese chip firm, it has 10% of the world’s semiconductor market. In contrast, TSMC Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation controls 53% of the global market for foundries.
