‘Swing King Bhuvi’: Bhuvneshwar Kumar bags most no. of wickets in the powerplay in T20Is

On the fifth delivery of the innings, Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck out Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie for his 34th powerplay wicket in T20I.

In the history of the T20I format, India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has now the most no. of wickets during the powerplay. At the first T20I match between India and Ireland on Sunday at the Malahide Cricket Club Ground in Dublin, Bhuvneshwar accomplished this feat. On the fifth delivery of the innings, he struck out Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie for his 34th powerplay wicket in T20I. The Indian pacer now has more wickets than Tim Southee of New Zealand and former West Indies spinner Samuel Badree, who each have 33 wickets.

In the opening T20I of the two-match series, which was postponed due to weather, Team India defeated Ireland by seven wickets thanks to blistering performances from Deepak Hooda and Hardik Pandya.

The scheduled 20 overs were cut to 12 for each side with new rules following a period of heavy rain. Only three bowlers could bowl two overs each during the powerplay, while two bowlers may bowl three overs.

In his whole three-over spell, Bhuvneshwar Kumar took one wicket and gave up 16 runs.

With seven wickets in hand, Team India chased down the goal of 109 runs in just 9.2 overs thanks to Hooda and Hardik, who both scored 47 runs off 29 balls.
