Sri Lanka win bilateral ODI series at home against Australia after three decades

After losing the T20 series, Sri Lanka won the ODI series against Australia. Sri Lanka defeated visiting team Australia by 4 runs in the fourth ODI played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday. With this win, Sri Lanka has also won the series. Now Sri Lanka is leading 3-1 in the series and the last match will be played on June 24 at the same ground.

Australian captain Aaron Finch won the toss and decided to field first. Sri Lanka, opening the innings, lost their first wicket in the second over itself. Maxwell took the wicket of Niroshan Dickwella. The second wicket fell in the form of Kusal Mendis in the seventh over and the third wicket fell in the 10th over. Sri Lanka lost their first three wickets in ten overs and then there was a 101 run partnership between Dhananjaya de Silva and Charit Aslanka. Charith Asalanka scored a much-needed century for the team by scoring 110 (106) runs. Although Sri Lanka set a target of 259 runs for Australia. Pat Cummins, Mitchell Marsh and Matthew Kuhnman took 2 wickets each from Australian side.

In reply, Australia opened the innings and lost their first wicket in the third over. Chamika Karunaratne sent captain Aaron Finch to the pavilion without scoring any runs. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh shared a 50-run partnership for the second wicket and then Dunith Wellalage took Marsh’s wicket in the 12th over. It was looking an easy run chase for Australia when they were at 189/4, and suddenly they lost three wickets in a row, Warner being one of them. David Warner missed his century and scored the highest 99 (112) runs for the Aussies. In the end, Pat Cummins played a belligerent innings but could not lead the team to victory, he scored 35 (43). Charith Asalanka was adjudged player of the match.
