According to Reports, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has suspended a SpiceJet pilot’s licence for six months for disregarding co-pilot instructions on a flight from Mumbai to Durgapur in May, which resulted in some passenger injuries.
The Durgapur-bound airliner experienced severe turbulence during the descent, injuring 14 passengers and three crew mates.
Concurrently, on May 1, a Boeing B737 operating aircraft SG-945 from Mumbai to Durgapur had severe turbulence as it descended, injuring a few passengers. Two pilots and four cabin crew members were among the 195 passengers on board the aircraft.
The Aeroplane took off from Mumbai at 5.13 p.m. During the descent, the aircraft experienced significant turbulence, with the vertical load factor varying between +2.64G and -1.36G. The crew manually operated the aircraft for two minutes during this period, based on the DGCA’s notice on May 2.
The Civil Aviation Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, stated after the event that the situation was being handled with the utmost care and that more details regarding the cause will be made public after the investigation was complete.
