According to information, the Paris central train station was the scene of a knife attack on Wednesday. France’s Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said that, after the attack injured many people, the police “quickly neutralised” the attacker.
As per the unnamed police sources, the attacker was shot at by police early on Wednesday morning when he injured several people and displayed a knife. The suspect was shot many times by police following the assault at the Gare du Nord at around 6.45 am before being taken into jail.
Initially acknowledging that the attacker had injured multiple people at the station, Interior Minister Darmanin made no more statements on number of persons injured. The Paris police further stated that, the situation at the Gare du Nord station is already over. At this moment, no other information has been given. Police also told that, it was not obvious what the person was attempting to do.
Images of armed police guarding a barricade on the station concourse were shared on social media by users. The transportation hub is one of the busiest in all of Europe, with Eurostar trains to London as well as other trains to northern Europe.
Some rail services have resumed since the stabbing, which prompted the station to be vacated and a safety perimeter to be established, the French train company said. French police stated, a new knife attack comes after at the same place as the attacker at Gare du Nord in February of last year was shot dead after the attacker killing two police forces. Further, it is not an terror related activity.
