Sadhna Gupta, the wife of Samajwadi Party (SP) founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, passed away on Saturday. She was reportedly being treated for a lung condition when she was taken to Medanta Hospital.
According to sources, Sadhna Gupta, Mulayam Singh’s second wife and 20 years his junior, had been ill for a protracted period of time and had spent the previous four days in the intensive care unit. Her health condition did not improve despite medication and treatment, according to sources.
Keshav Prasad Maurya, the deputy chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, expressed his sorrow at Gupta’s passing on Twitter. In Hindi, he wrote “I learned with sadness that Mulayam Singh Yadav’s previous wife Sadhna Gupta had passed away. Lord, grant Mulayam Singh and his family the strength to endure the loss.”
Prior to 2003, when Malti Yadav, the mother of Akhilesh Yadav and Mulayam Singh Yadav, passed away, not many people were aware of Sadhna Gupta. That year, Sadhna officially became Mulayam’s wife.
