England team clearly bossed the game here at Lords in the second ODI after defeating India by 100 runs. Now the three match series is levelled at 1-1. This is also the first time in 2022 that India has lost in an ODI match under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. After a facer in the First ODI and a poor start in second ODI, England team bounced back strongly and registered an emphatic victory where Reece Topley registered career’s best bowling figures by any English bowler in an ODI fixture.
CHAHAL’s magic and WILLEY / MOEEN’s resillience
Captain Rohit Sharma opted to bowl after winning the toss at Lords. England started off pretty nicely with JASON ROY 23(33) and JOHNNY BAIRSTOW scored 38(38). After that, INDIAN bowlers took control over the proceedings and reduced ENGLAND to 102 in 21 overs with half of their side back to the pavilion. For a change Captain Jos Buttler came in at 5 but England’s middle order tumbled again but this time it was the spin magic of YUJVENDRA CHAHAL which made the England batters to look helpless. It seemed really difficult for the England team to go past the 200 mark but LIVINGSTONE 33(33) and MOEEN ALI 47(64) built a steady 46 runs partnership making conditions better for ENGLAND but HARDIK PANDYA removed dangerous looking LIVINGSTONE reducing England to 148/6. DAVID WILLEY came in at 8 and played a handy knock of 41(49) to help England to go past that 200 run mark. MOEEN ALI and WILLEY made sure that ENGLAND team reach a respectable total and in the end England were allout for 246 runs in 49 overs. For INDIA, pick of the bowlers was “Chatur Chalaak CHAHAL” who recorded magnificient figures of 4/48 in his 10 overs. BUMRAH and Hardik also bowled well each bagging 2 wickets.
REECE TOPLEY’s Brilliance and Batting horror from INDIA
In reply of ENGLAND’s 246 India never looked in a comfortable position to chase that down and were reduced to 31/4 in 11 overs by ENGLAND bowlers. INDIA’s top order failed to a high class bowling effort as ROHIT SHARMA and RISHABH PANT falling for a duck, DHAWAN 9(26), KOHLI 16(25) respectively. HARDIK and SURYA tried hard to keep things moving for INDIA but there was never a chance for them to make it through. JADEJA and SHAMI also tried a bit but it was not meant for them today. REECE TOPLEY and DAWID WILLEY started off beautifully with the new ball denying India a good start while the former managed to pull off a brilliant effort recording Best Ever Career Bowling Figures by any English Bowler as 24/6 in 9.5 overs with also bowling 2 maidens. WILLEY also bowled beatifully with CARSE, MOEEN and LIVINGSTONE bagging one wicket each to bowl out INDIA for 146 runs in 38.5 overs.
Now the series is equally poised at 1-1 and the series decider is to be played on Sunday in Manchester.
