Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Lok Kalyan Marg’ swipe at PM Modi over EPF interest rate cut

After the national government approved a rate drop on provident fund deposits for 2021-22, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a shot at Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his ceremonial address. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) voted in March to pay 8.1 percent interest on provident fund deposits for the previous fiscal year, a decrease from the previous year.

EPFO is a popular savings system for millions of salaried middle-class Indians, as well as a state-run retirement fund management.

Rahul Gandhi claimed on Twitter that preserving the house’s address ‘Lok Kalyan Marg’ – which literally translates to ‘public welfare road’ – does not offer people welfare.

PM Modi, according to the Lok Sabha member from Wayanad, has applied a strategy of increasing inflation and lowering incomes in order to “ruin the present and future” of millions of workers.

“Keeping the address of the house ‘Lok Kalyan Marg’ does not bring welfare to the people. The Prime Minister has implemented the ‘Increase Inflation, Reduce Earnings’ model to ruin the present and future of 6.5 crore employees,” Gandhi posted a news clip on the downward revision on Twitter in Hindi.

In 2016, India’s Prime Minister’s official address was changed from 7 Race Course Road, or 7 RCR, to Lok Kalyan Marg.

Pawan Khera, the Congress’s national spokesperson, echoed Gandhi’s criticism, saying that’s why he’s now creating a ‘Modi Mahal’ worth thousands of crores, a clear allusion to Central Vista Avenue.

“Seeing his misdeeds, Sahib himself could not digest the name the name ‘Lok Kalyan Marg, that is why he is building a ‘Modi Mahal’ worth thousands of crores for himself,” he added.
