R Praggnanandhaa of India upset World Champion Magnus Carlsen for the second time this year, claiming his second victory over the Norwegian.
On Friday, the two players faced in the fifth round of the Chessable Masters online rapid chess tournament, and Praggnanandhaa won, keeping his prospects of reaching the knockout stage alive.
Praggnanandhaa defeated the world champion for the second time in less than three months, thanks to a single move error by Carlsen. Carlsen died suddenly on his 40th move, when he misplayed the knight and Praggnanandhaa issued a check with a threat to take the vulnerable black knight.
Appreciating Praggnanandhaa’s talent and brilliance the first Indian Grandmaster VISHWANATHAN ANAND said that Praggnanandhaa can become the new World Champion from India as he has everything in him which in future can establish him as the new Chess Grandmaster and make the nation proud.
