According to sources, the Patiala High Court sentenced renowned Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi to two years in prison in a case involving human trafficking that dates back 19 years, according to the complainant’s attorney Gurmeet Singh.
The Punjabi pop artist who received a two-year sentence in 2018 for his role in a human trafficking case had his conviction affirmed by the District Court on Thursday. The musician was later released on bail, but current sources claim that, in accordance with a court order, he has again been detained.
At a police station in Patiala, a case was brought in 2003 against Daler Mehndi, his deceased brother Shamsher Singh, and two other people. According to reports, new instances of human trafficking against them surfaced as a result of the complaint. According to sources, the Brothers were accused of violating the Indian Passport Act as well as IPC provisions for conspiracy and people trafficking.
According to the FIR, Mehndi and his brother were charged with unlawfully transferring individuals abroad under the guise of troupe members for payment. According to reports, records from Mehndi’s office in New Delhi’s Connaught Place provided Punjab police with adequate proof throughout the probe.
The complainants claimed that Mehndi and Singh had agreed to send them to the USA illegally in exchange for payment, but that they had broken their word. Additionally, it was claimed that between 1998 and 1999, the brothers lured roughly 10 persons to the United States under the pretence of being members of the group. According to sources, Mehndi reportedly “dropped off” three females in San Francisco while riding with a female actress.
Mehndi has provided the vocals for numerous top-charting songs, including Rang De Basanti, Aila Re Aila, Bhootni Ke, and Zor Ka Jhatka. He is well recognised for his songs in both Punjabi and Hindi films.
