Poland claims that Germany owes it $1.3 trillion in war damages

Poland’s top official announced on Thursday that the government would ask Germany for restitution for the Nazi invasion and occupation of his nation during World War II, which would amount to almost $1.3 trillion.

On the 83rd anniversary of the commencement of World War II, Law and Justice party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski made the enormous assertion during the publication of a long-awaited assessment on the costs to the nation of years of Nazi German occupation.

During the presentation of the study, Kaczynski stated, “We not only prepared the report, but we have also reached the choice as to the further steps.

Kaczynski added, “We will turn to Germany to initiate negotiations on the reparations. It will be a long and not an easy path, but one day we will do so.

He argued that the action would promote real Polish-German reconciliation” built on “truth.”

He asserted that the German economy has the resources to cover the cost.

Germany claims that after the war, compensation was given to East Bloc countries while part of Germany’s pre-war territory were used to make up for the regions Poland lost in the East as borders were redrew. Berlin declares the case resolved.

The government’s view that “the matter of reparations is concluded” is still “unchanged,” according to the German Foreign Ministry, which stated this on Thursday.
