PM Modi visit to Japan for Quad meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Japan for a meeting of the Quad Leaders. PM Modi was warmly welcomed by the Indian diaspora in Tokyo during this time. Apart from attending the Quad meeting, the PM will continue on a two-day tour, which will begin today, Monday. The Quad Security Dialogue will bring together the leaders of India, Japan, the United States, and Australia.

PM Modi was greeted graciously as he arrived in Tokyo. ‘Jai Shri Ram’ was chanted by the Indian diaspora in Japan. PM Modi was also called the “Lion of Mother India” at the time.

Prime Minister Modi said on Sunday that the Quad leaders’ second one-on-one summit in Japan will provide an opportunity for the leaders of the four nations to assess progress in the grouping’s initiatives. He further stated that this dialogue will allow participants to exchange perspectives on trends in the Indo-Pacific region as well as global problems of mutual concern.

Modi released a statement before his departure for a two-day visit to Japan (May 23-24), noting that he would hold bilateral discussions with US President Joe Biden to further enhance the multifaceted bilateral ties. Possible solutions will be discussed.

We will also continue the dialogue on regional developments and contemporary global issues

At the invitation of his Japanese counterpart, Fumio Kishida, the Prime Minister indicated he will travel to Tokyo. He stated that he hosted Kishida for the 14th India-Japan Annual Summit in March 2022.

Modi added

During my visit to Tokyo, I look forward to continuing our dialogue with the aim of strengthening the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership

He also stated that he will attend the Quad leaders’ second one-on-one meeting in Japan, which would allow the leaders of the four Quad countries to assess the Quad’s progress. Modi also announced that Anthony Albanese, Australia’s newly elected Prime Minister, will attend the Quad Summit for the first time.
