Over 30000 houses damaged : Assam CM on floods

According to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is requesting an advance money from the NDRF to assist the impacted people, quite so many as 30,000 to 40,000 homes were devastated in Assam as a result of the recent catastrophic floods.

Sarma explained this to Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a meeting on Friday, July 8, and asked for support from the government.

According to a statement released by the government on Saturday, the chief minister informed the home minister that the downpour had destroyed between 30,000 and 40,000 homes.

In a later interview with media, Sarma said that since the central committee that assessed the flood situation had classified Assam’s flood as “serious,” he had asked the NDRF for an advance money so that the state could assist those whose homes had been harmed by the inundation.

“The Centre’s door is always open. There is no dearth of funds. Whatever we present legally and logically we will get the required funds,”

According to the chief minister, the union home ministry gave him the assurance that it will seriously examine his request for the prompt release of the advance money from the NDRF.

Sarma stated that rather than requesting bundles of money, the state administration will provide an accurate image of the amount of the flood damage in order to receive the proper funding.

According to him, the government’s goal is to fully use the State Disaster Response Fund in order to provide the state with both the NDRF and extra funding. As urgent assistance to the Assam government to tackle the present floods, the Center provided Rs 324.40 crore as the state share of the SDRF for 2022–23.
