OFFICIAL: Umran Malik Set For India Debut Against Ireland

Umran Malik has been given his debut cap ahead of the first Twenty20 International against Ireland in Dublin. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the one to award his fellow SRH pacer the 98th T20I cap for India.

The Jammu Express has realised a long-held ambition. Many cricket analysts, notably Sunil Gavaskar, have been clamouring for Malik to make his debut for some time. Umran Malik got 22 wickets in 14 IPL games for Sunrisers Hyderabad this season.

Recently, veteran Indian batsman and former captain Dilip Vengsarkar stated that Umran Malik appeared to be the finest bowler in the IPL and that he should be given a chance immediately.

Following his IPL heroics, Malik was rewarded for his consistency with his first national call-up for the T20 series against South Africa, although he did not play.

Former India all-rounder and Vengsarkar’s 1983 World Cup colleague Roger Binny agreed that Umran should be given an opportunity in all three forms right away.

Binny stated,

There is definitely going to be a bigger bunch of fast bowlers coming through now. And he (Umran) should be given a chance straight away because he has proved that he is quick and if you saw him bowl some of the yorkers in the IPL that was brute force. So you cannot keep a youngster out for that long.

These voices have been heard, and Malik is ready to go against Ireland in the first T20I.
