No Government Benefits Will Be Allowed For Families With More Than Four Children In Manipur

According to Sources, officials have said that, Manipur will stop giving Government benefits to families with more than four children on Friday. As stated by the state cabinet led by Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who also decreed that no government incentives will be granted to homes with more than four children.

The Manipur State Population Commission has been constituted as an ordinance. After the Manipur State Population Commission’s ruling is put into force, no member of the family would be eligible for any government benefits if any couple has more than four children.

The state legislative assembly has already passed a private member’s resolution to establish a population commission in the state with unanimity. 28,56 lakh people call Manipur home as of the 2011 Census. In 2001, there were 22.93 lakh.

Assam, a neighbouring state, already forbade having more than two children, whether from a single relationship or several partners, on or after January 1, 2021. The resolution was introduced by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Khumukcham Joykisan in response to the alleged entry of outsiders into the state.

He quoted official data to assert that between 2001 and 2011, the 153.3 percentage population growth in Manipur’s hill districts had increased drastically to 250 percentage.
