According to sources, In Noney, Manipur, eight students and a school warden died as school bus overturns, injuring over 35 persons, some of them are serious. The authorities further said that, the bus driver lost control while negotiating a bend on the Old Cachar Road in the mountain region, about 55 kilometres from Imphal.Â
Five children were killed there while three more were also declared dead after being brought to the hospital along with the school warden. The injured both teachers and students are undergoing medical care at various Manipur hospitals.
Additionally, officials have also stated that, two buses transporting students from Thambalnu Higher Secondary School went on a research excursion to Noney’s Khoupum. They stated that the accident happened on a bus that was transporting female students.
Each surviving family member of the deceased will receive compensation in the amount of 5 lakh rupees, while those who suffered catastrophic injuries would receive 1 lakh rupees. Cash assistance in the amount of 50,000 will be provided to those who suffered minor injuries.
After the incident, the state government sent an order to all school administrators requesting that they delay scheduling student outings until January 10, 2023.
