Milestone Alert: SriLankan Batsman Chandimal Creates Record

Dinesh Chandimal batted with finesse and bravery to help Sri Lanka amass a massive score of 554 against Australia in the second Test match at Galle. The middle-order player reached a significant milestone by remaining undefeated at 206 and being the first Sri Lankan player to record a double century in a Test match against Australia. The previous record, 192 runs, was set by the legendary Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara in a Test match in Hobart in November 2007.

Due to Chandimal’s efforts, Sri Lanka now has a chance to win the second Test and tie the two-match series at 1-1. The hosts have a sizable lead of 190 runs, and their bowlers have also provided them a strong start in the second Australian innings by dismissing players like David Warner, Usman Khawaja, and Steve Smith with fewer than 80 runs scored.

Since 2010, veteran batter Chandimal has played for Sri Lanka in all three formats. He has, however, had a career filled with ups and downs, joining and leaving the team.

He has also served as Sri Lanka’s team captain in the past. After the squad struggled and suffered numerous losses both at home and abroad, he was relieved of his captaincy.
