Malaysia Masters Badminton: PV Sindhu qualifies for next round, Saina out in first round

Indian women’s badminton star and two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has qualified for the next round of the Malaysia Masters badminton tournament and London Olympic medallist Saina Nehwal crashed out of the tournament in her first round. Nehwal crashed out in the second consecutive tournament after losing in the first round.

With this win, Sindhu avenged her loss by defeating Bing Xiao in the Indonesia Open Super 1000 tournament last month. Sindhu defeated Bing Xiao 21-13, 17-21, 21-15. However, the Chinese player still holds a 10-9 win-loss record against Sindhu.

On the other hand, London Olympics bronze medallist Saina lost the match against South Korea’s Kim Ga Eun after winning the first round 21-16, 17-21, 14-21. In the Malaysia Open Super 750 tournament held last week, she was knocked out in the first round itself.

In men’s singles, HS Prannoy also qualified to the second round, while B Sai Praneeth and Parupalli Kashyap also entered the second round by registering opposite wins. Prannoy defeated Bryce Leverdez of France 21-19, 21-14. Praneeth, on the other side, defeated Guatemala’s Kevin Corden 21-8, 21-9 in less than half an hour.
