Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the 90th Interpol General Assembly at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. There were delegations from 195 countries comprising ministers, police chiefs of countries, heads of national bureaus and senior officers.
“Time to look ahead and also look at the past. Our vedas say let noble thoughts come from all directions and India believes in global cooperation“, PM said.
“Interpol is approaching a historic milestone. In 2023, it will celebrate its 100 years. This is a call for universal cooperation to make the world a better place. India is one of the top contributors towards UN peacekeeping operations”, Modi said.
“India calls for greater world cooperation. When threats are global, the response can’t be local. It’s a high time, the world should come together to defeat these threats. There is a need to develop international strategies to abolish terrorism worldwide”, he added.
The Interpol’s general assembly is the supreme body which meets once a year to discuss global issues and looks for solutions. This meeting in India is happening after 25 years, last held in 1997. The Interpol meeting in India amid Russia and Ukraine war is very important.India has always stood with non-violence and a very promoter of it. PM modi even urged both Russia and Ukraine to immediately cease the war and work on other global issues like food, climate, terrorism and more.
Report says, India proposed to host the Interpol General Assembly in 2022 at New Delhi to mark 75 years of India’s independence was accepted by the assembly.
