According to information, on Monday, BJP Lawmaker Madal Virupakshappa went to the Karnataka High Court to ask for anticipatory bail after being charged with bribery. The attorney for Channagiri MLA came before Judge K Natarajan’s bench to request an expedited hearing of the plea.
The court stated that it will hear it on Tuesday following listing. Around 8 crore was allegedly recovered by the Lokayukta from the MLA’s son V Prashanth Madal last week in a cash-for-contract controversy.
In the alleged bribery case, the Lokayukta has filed a FIR with Virupakshappa listed as the primary offender. After Virupakshappa, the Chairman of Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd, was caught in a trap by the Lokayukta and his son was accused of receiving a bribe of 40 lakh, the unaccounted cash was found in the company’s office.
The MLA then got up and went. Following additional searches, around 6 crore from Prashanth’s house and 2 crore from the KSDL office were recovered. A total of 8.23 crore in cash, a considerable quantity of gold and silver jewellery.
And further sizeable land investments were reportedly found in several Karnataka regions, according to Lokayukta sources. In addition, Virupakshappa has asked a civil court in Bengaluru to issue a directive forbidding media outlets from spreading untrue information about him.
