When Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan visited Bengaluru on Sunday to seek assistance for improving rail and road connectivity in his state, the Karnataka government rejected his recommendations. He was forced to leave empty-handed as a result.
Following a conversation with Pinarayi Vijayan which took place as part of the southern regional council meeting, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai stated that the Kerala government asked assistance for its numerous highway and railway projects, such as the Kanhangad-Kaniyur Rail Line.Â
The Rail Line Connection’s Total Kiometres divided :
Thirty-one kilometres are in Karnataka, while forty kilometres are in Kerala along the proposed Kanhangad-Kaniyur rail line project’s route. Karnataka won’t gain much from this plan, though.
Additionally, it would pass through ecologically delicate and biologically diverse Western Ghats regions. The chief minister of Kerala was informed that Karnataka would not be able to extend its cooperation for this project. Basavaraj Bommai also stated that, Vijayan also mentioned the old Thalassery-Mysuru rail line project, he was severely told that it was impossible to get clearance for it because the proposed train route would run through the Bandipur and Nagarhole national parks and severely affect their flora and fauna.
A proposed subterranean rail line by Kerala’s main government was categorically rejected due to probable environmental harm. Vijayan suggested to increase the number of buses that operate the Bandipur National Highway at night from two to four. This suggestion was also rejected by the Chief Minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai.
