Iran Reformist Mostafa Tajzadeh Gets Jail For Five Years

According to reports, Mostafa Tajzadeh, a well-known Iranian reformist who regularly demanded “structural reforms” to the Islamic state, was given a five year jail term, his lawyer stated. As per attorney Houshang Pourbabai, the 65-years old has begun serving his sentence after deciding not to file an appeal.

Before the wave of protests sparked by Mahsa Amini’s passing while in the care of the morality police last month, the man was detained on July 8.  Pourbabai further said that, Mostafa Tajzadeh, a client of mine, was given a five-year sentence for plotting against state security, a two years sentence for disseminating lies, and a one year term for subverting the system.

Number of Years of Imprisonment :

He said that because the sentences were consecutive, his client will serve a total of five years in prison. Tajzadeh chose not to offer any defence at his August 13 trial after the court rejected his request for a private conference with his lawyer.

Tajzadeh’s wife, Fakhrossadat Mohtashamipour, a well-known reform activist, expressed concern that her ill husband was still being kept in solitary confinement. Tajzadeh has been imprisoned seven years in jail.

He served as a minister in the Mohammad Khatami administration from1997 to 2005, a reformer who oversaw peace with the West. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was arrested alongside other reformist politicians in 2009 after his re-election as a conservative president caused massive protests.
