IndiGo Starts Taking Disciplinary Actions Regarding Mass Leave

IndiGo has started taking disciplinary action against the aircraft maintenance technicians who collectively took five days off work to protest their low wages. Sources claim that the airline has asked the worried technicians—along with any necessary medical records—to come in to visit the airline doctor so that the carrier can determine whether or not they were actually ill. One of these technicians who went on sick leave received a mail from IndiGo informing them that their absence would have an impact on the airline’s operations. It stated, “Accordingly, you are instructed to meet with our company doctors as soon as possible along with appropriate medical records to substantiate your medical condition.”

The airline remained silent when a source requested a response regarding the circumstance. The email instructed the technician to contact the corporate doctor immediately as the airline was unable to reach him.

The airline will assume that he is “voluntarily staying away from work and treat it appropriately” if he chooses not to attend the appointment.

IndiGo announced  that it will “rationalise” the compensation of its aircraft maintenance staff in response to the extensive use of sick days. IndiGo reportedly said in internal communications that it would also get rid of “anomalies brought on by the pandemic”.

A significant number of IndiGo’s cabin staff members took sick leave on July 2, which led to delays on around 55% of the airline’s domestic flights. They allegedly went to an Air India recruitment event, according to sources.

Approximately 55% of IndiGo’s domestic flights were delayed on July 2 as a significant number of its cabin crew members took sick leave, reportedly in order to attend an Air India recruitment drive. When the COVID-19 pandemic was at its worst, IndiGo had significantly cut back on paying a sizable section of its workforce.
