India’s Football Team Crush Nepal 4-0 To Lift SAFF Under-17 Championship

The Indian boys’ football team won the SAFF U-17 Championship on Wednesday in Colombo after defeating a 10-man Nepal 4-0 in the title fight (September 14). Aman, Boby Singh, Korou Singh, skipper Vanlalpeka Guite, and Korou Singh all scored once to help India to a convincing win. The championship, which was formerly known as the SAFF U-15 Championship, was defended by India with this victory.

India was defeated 3-1 by Nepal in the group stage. But in the final, India appeared to be a team determined to seize control of the situation completely straight away. They started the game strong, looking for weaknesses in the Nepali defence, and managed to take the lead in the 18th minute through Boby, who headed it in at the far post following a good move involving Ricky Meetei and Vanlalpeka Guite, the latter of whom sailed a cross in the direction of the eventual goalscorer.

After Korou Singh scored his second goal, Nepal rushed to attack the Indian half, but the Indian midfield was successfully foiling their attempts.

Prashant Laksam, the captain of Nepal, elbowed Danny Laishram in the back in the 39th minute after the two became tangled up in a challenge. The incident resulted in an instant red card from the referee.

India completed the remainder of the first half with the man advantage before continuing play following the change of ends. Soon after contributing two assists earlier, Guite scored his own goal in the 63rd minute. The fourth goal was scored in stoppage time by India’s second-half sub Aman, who was put through behind the Nepal defence. By the time the match was through, India had successfully defended their title, therefore the outcome was evident.

Vanlalpeka Guite, the captain of India, was awarded the tournament’s most valuable player, and Sahil was chosen the best goalie.
