After Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, now India’s daughter Parul Chaudhary has raised the country’s honour abroad. India’s star track athlete Parul Choudhary won a bronze medal in the 3000m race at the Sound Running Sunset Tour 1 in the US on the night of July 2, 2022.
The event was played at the Jack Kemp Stadium in the city of Los Angeles, California. She covered 3000m in 8:57:19 minutes and also broke the national record. She became the first athlete in the country to clock in less than 9 minutes in the women’s 3000m event.
Parul Chaudhary, who specializes in the women’s 3000m steeplechase, was running fifth after two laps, but then made a spectacular comeback to not only break the national record but also finish third on the podium.
27-year-old Parul Chaudhary broke Surya Loganathan’s national record by a margin of 7 seconds. Born on 7 July 1990 in Puddukottai, Tamil Nadu, Surya Loganathan set a national record in April 2016 in New Delhi with a timing of 9:04.5 minutes.
Earlier, Neeraj Chopra won a bronze medal in the Stockholm Diamond League, one of the world’s most prestigious tournaments, on 30 June 2022. He had earlier thrown 89.03m at the Pavo Nurmi Games on June 14, 2022. He had broken his national record even then.
Parul Chaudhary will now be seen competing in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA. Earlier this year, she won the gold medal in the 3000m steeplechase at the Indian Grand Prix held in Kerala’s capital Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) with a timing of 9:38:29. This is her personal best performance.
