India loses WTC points for its slow over-rate, winning percent decrease

Just slightly above Pakistan’s 52.38 percent, India has 75 points (or a point percentage of 53.47).

For Team India, the loss of two World Test Championship points for sustaining a sluggish over-rate during the just-completed Edgbaston Test against England is salt in the wounds. The England Team successfully chased down 378 to tie the series at 2-2 while handing the visitors a humiliating seven-wicket defeat. In a Test match against India, this was the first time a team had successfully overtaken a 350-plus target.

According to the most recent standings, Pakistan has 52.38 percent of the total points, while India has 75 points (or a point percentage of 53.47). In terms of the rules, each over that a team fails to bowl within the given time results in a player being penalised 20% of their match money. A team also loses one point for every short that is overrun. The visitors were deducted two WTC points and 40 percent of the match fees because they were outscored by two overs once time allowances were taken into account.

India is further behind in the WTC championship race

Match referee David Boon imposed the penalties while on-field umpires Aleem Dar and Richard Kettleborough, third umpire Marais Erasmus, and fourth umpire Alex Wharf levelled the accusation. The Indian team will undoubtedly be devastated by this news, which would significantly reduce their hopes of reaching the WTC final for the second time in a row.

The fifth and final rescheduled Test, meanwhile, played out like a rollercoaster, with India appearing in control for the majority of the match. The Three Lions put up a stunning effort and easily crossed the finish line despite needing to reach 378. The main driving force behind England’s victory was Jonny Bairstow, who made hundreds in both innings.
