India has rejected the 2022 Environmental Performance Index analysis, which placed it worst out of 180 countries. Many of the index’s indicators, according to the government, are based on groundless assumptions. The ministry asserted in an official statement, “Some of these indicators used for assessing performance are extrapolated and based on surmises and unscientific methods.” Many of the index’s indicators, developed by Yale and Columbia University experts, are based on “unfounded assumptions,” it said.
According to the research, the low rankings of India, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Pakistan are due to their prioritization of economic growth over environmental sustainability.
