Ghulam Nabi Azad announces his new Political Party- Democratic Azad Party (DAP)

Former Rajya Sabha member and a Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad who resigned from the party has announced his own new party- Democratic Azad Party in Jammu. On 26th August, Azad resigned from the Congress party and a month later today on 26th September he has his new party and ideologies. Out of 1500 names suggested, Azad chose (DAP) Democratic Azad Party the best one. ‘New party will be democratic, independent and with own ideology, it won’t be autocratic‘, said Azad. Although, the party name is democratic but his name is mentioned too.

Azad has also launched his party new flag having three colours- Yellow, White and Blue.
The yellow colour indicates creativity and unity in diversity. The White is a symbol of peace. The Blue colour means freedom, open space, imagination and limits from the depths of ocean to the heights of the sky.

In the name of Azad’s party, one very important thing is to notice is that, there is no mention of Congress in it like the past leaders. Mamta Banerjee formed a new party in West Bengal leaving Congress- (Trinamool Congress), Sarad Pawar in Maharashtra -(Nationalist Congress Party) and Jagan Mohan Reddy in Andhra Pradesh- (YSR Congress Party).

Ghulam Nabi Azad was the Chief minister of Jammu & Kashmir from 2005 to 2008. He had been the leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha from 2014 to 2021. Last month, Azad resigned from the Congress party with a letter to Sonia Gandhi and citing certain issues within the party and concern over its future. He mentioned poor leadership, lack of will and ability to fight for what is right, defeat of Congress in elections (lost 39 out of 49 elections) and won only 4 elections on its own and 6 in coalition. Currently, the Indian National Congress is ruling only in 2 states- Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
