French energy companies call for ‘immediate control’ over energy use

The heads of French energy giants Engie (ENGIE.PA), EDF (EDF.PA), and TotalEnergies (TTEF.PA) said in the French weekly paper Journal du Dimanche on Sunday that individuals and businesses must “immediately” reduce their energy consumption in order to be better prepared to handle an impending energy crisis this winter.

The corporations stated in an open letter that “we need to work together to cut our usage in order to reclaim a margin of manoeuvre,” citing dramatic drops in Russian gas exports as well as constrained European electricity supply owing to maintenance concerns. We can start next winter better equipped if we take action this summer, especially in terms of maintaining our gas reserves, they claimed.

Many countries are facing serious energy deficit issues amid war between Russia and Ukraine as Russia has decided to limit its power and gas supply. Russia is demanding the payments now in its own currency in order to reduce the downfall or global shortage of Russian Rubble as it might face some difficulties amid War and sanctions imposed on it by various European countries. Many European countries like Germany, France etc have already complained about shortage of gas and power supplies by Russia and urged their citizens to limit the use of energy. Reportedly around 12 European countries have been seriously affected by the limited Gas and Energy supplies by Russia whereas some countries like India and China have reportedly increased their import of crude oil and Natural Gas upto 50%.
