First Tribal And Second Woman Droupadi Murmu To Take Oath As India’s 15th President Today

The 15th President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will take the oath of office at a ceremony in the central chamber of Parliament on Monday at 10:15 a.m. She will be the first tribal woman to hold the position of the nation’s highest constitutional office. A 21-gun salute will follow the oath being offered by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana.

On July 21, 2022, the 64-year-old Santhal Oman wrote history by defeating Yashwant Sinha of the opposition and winning 64 percent of the votes.

Immediately following the taking of the oath, 64-year-old Droupadi Murmu, who will be the youngest Indian President and the first to be born after Independence, will address the crowd.

After the ceremony in the main hall, the President and President Ram Nath Kovind will depart for Rashtrapati Bhavan, where she will receive an inter-services guard of honour in the front courtyard.

Political Leaders who will attend the Meet :

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, members of the council of ministries, governors, chief ministers, chiefs of foreign missions, members of parliament, and civil and military officers will attend the ceremony of assumption of office.

The celebration will also be attended by Murmu’s family, including her brother, sister-in-law, daughter, and son-in-law. Her brother Taranisen Tudu revealed to HT that his wife Sakramani is wearing a Jhal saree for the President-elect, a traditional Santhali saree decorated with patterns of birds, fish, flowers, leaves, and animals.

Tudu added that, “I hope my sister will wear one of these handmade sarees tomorrow. Santhali women wear them on important occasions. Additionally, the family is bringing along Murmu’s favourite sweetmeats”.
