The Spaniard will take Sebastian Vettel’s position, who announced his resignation from Formula one last week. After a difficult time with McLaren, Alonso took a two-season break from the sport before making a comeback in 2021 with Alpine.
The two-time Formula one World Champion has only finished on the podium once since making a comeback to the sport, during the 2017 Qatar Grand Prix. Due to Alonso’s move to Aston Martin, Alpine will be able to hire young driver Oscar Piastri full-time in 2023 in place of Esteban Ocon.

One of the most exciting teams in Formula 1 right now, the Aston Martin team is, in Alonso’s words, “clearly devoting the energy and commitment to win. Since I’ve known Lawrence and Lance for a very long time, it is obvious that they have the desire and aspirations necessary to succeed in Formula 1.
There is nobody in Formula 1 today is showing a higher vision and absolute passion to winning, so it’s a really exciting opportunity for me. I still want to fight for the front, and I want to be a member of a group that is committed to development.
We are all aware that there is a lot of work to be done in order to go forward and that in order to do well, we must work closely together.

“Alonso will compete with Lance Stroll on the Silverstone team. Stroll has participated for the team since since it started participating in 2019, when it was still known as Racing Point. After the first half of the season, Aston Martin is now ranked tenth in the Constructors’ Championship”.
