Enforcement Directorate: Xiaomi’s charges of coercion are baseless

Xiaomi claimed in a recent declaration before the Karnataka High Court that its top executives were threatened with “physical assault and coercion” during their questioning by ED investigators in Bengaluru, according to various news sources.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) said in a statement that it is “a professional agency with solid work ethics, and there was no pressure or threat to the company’s personnel at any time.”

“The allegations that the statement of Xiaomi India officials was extracted under duress by the ED are false and without merit.”

“The officials of Xiaomi India deposed their statements before ED under FEMA voluntarily in the most conducive environment on various occasions”, the agency stated.

They deposed on the basis of papers and information provided by the corporation throughout the investigation, according to the statement.

Xiaomi global vice president Manu Kumar Jain’s statement was recorded four times, on April 13, April 14, April 21, and April 26, according to the agency, while CFO Sameer B S Rao’s speech was recorded six times.

It was reported that Rao’s statements were taken on March 25, April 14, April 19, April 21, April 22, and April 26.
“However, no complaint was filed by them at any point of time during recording of statements at various occasions.” “Last statement of the officials of the company was recorded on 26.04.2022 and the seizure order was passed on 29.04.2022. It appears that allegation now made after passage of substantial time is an afterthought,” it said.
