The state of Bihar is on high alert as 37-districts are in the grip of dengue fever as total cases crossed 4,200-mark. Authority says, 90% of the infections reported so far this year came in last one month. The main reason for increasing cases is rain and water logging around cities as Bihar is also under floods.
State-capital Patna counted maximum cases among all 38-districts in Bihar. The capital city also counts for 77.7% of total cases registered this year in the state. In the last 24 hours, Patna reported 484 new cases, the maximum this year in a day, breaking record of 427 cases of October 13.
Patna DM Chandrashekhar Singh said, meetings are going on with the civil surgeons, superintendents of government hospitals, health experts and directors of private hospitals and blood bank officials in the wake of rising cases of dengue. Patna’s DM told schools and colleges to ask children to wear protectives, full-sleeved clothes, use mosquito-net, repellent, maintain cleanliness and hygiene in rooms, not allow accumulation of stagnant water and regularly change the water of flower pot or vase. He also advised the authorities to use sufficient anti-larvae chemicals and maintain cleanliness around institutions.
The dengue spreading mosquito is the most active in the day time. It attacks two hours after sunrise and hours before sunset. But it is inactive in a well-lit area.
The dengue virus in Bihar is looking like a pandemic now. The number of cases are increasing rapidly. The beds in hospitals are getting full and at the same time patients have to wait in queue for long for admission. Authorities are appealing people for awareness and follow guidelines.
