Delhi got 150 electric buses, Delhiites can travel free of cost for the first 3 days of the launch

Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi chief minister, launched ‘150 electric buses’ from the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) in the national capital on Tuesday, urging locals to keep them clean. He also took one of the buses from the Indraprastha Bus Station to the Rajghat Bus Station. During the bus voyage, he was accompanied by Delhi transport minister Kailash Gahlot and chief secretary Naresh Kumar.

These cutting-edge buses feature CCTV cameras, GPS, ten emergency buttons, and ramps for the differently abled, among other features. According to the statement, three depots have been totally electrified and are ready to house the 150 new buses in Mundela Kalan, Rajghat, and Rohini Sector-37.

Teevra Mudrika on Ring Road, Route No 502 between Mori Gate and Mehrauli Terminal, Route No E-44 on IP Depot, as well as the Connaught Place, Safdarjung, South Extension, Ashram, Jangpura, and India Gate routes will all be served by electric buses.

Delhi government has always been pushing its people to shift to greener modes of transport and make the switch to EVs. Shifting to public transport, especially sustainable modes of public transport is a lifestyle change that we wish to see in Delhiites

According to PTI, the Delhi government has set aside 1,862 crore over the next ten years for the purchase of a significant number of electric buses, while the Centre has contributed 150 crore. The Delhi Chief Minister thanked the national government for the cash and stated that the goal is to have 2,000 electric buses in the city within a year. “They deserve credit.” He continued, “Work should happen in Delhi.”

He went on to say that 7,200 buses will be roaming the roads of Delhi for the first time in its history, and that the AAP government aims to acquire 600-700 CNG buses because electric buses take longer to manufacture.

By July, officials say, 500 new public e-vehicle charging stations will be operational in Delhi. In Delhi, there are currently 597 e-vehicle charging sites, including those in malls and markets. Individuals are also submitting applications for e-charging stations.

Starting Tuesday, Delhi residents will be allowed to travel for free for three days. “All the officers and operational crew of DTC may be advised similarly and not urge commuters on purchasing tickets, during the aforesaid period of 3 days in all pure electric buses of DTC,” the transportation department stated in an official communication on Monday.
