After being discovered to be in possession of 45 pistols valued at Rs 22.5 lakh, the customs authorities at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport detained an Indian couple who were traveling back from Vietnam.

Jaswinder Kaur and Jagjeet Singh were named as the culprits. According to the officials, the pair reportedly admitted to earlier importing 25 weapons from Turkey for Rs 12.5 lakhs. Their little daughter, who was travelling with them, was turned over to her grandma by the officials.

As per sources, a senior customs official at the national capital’s IGI stated,

Ballistics reports will confirm whether the guns are real or not but, in a preliminary report, NSG has confirmed that the guns are fully functional and can be used.

The couple was detained in accordance with Section 104 of the Customs Act, 1962.

The two trolley bags were taken under Section 110 of the Act, according to the police, along with the found firearms.

It is unknown how the couple and the firearms managed to avoid detection by security personnel while they were departing Vietnam.
