Chinese Tracking Vessel To Dock At Hambantota Port After Sri Lanka Grants Permission

According to Information, the Sri Lankan government has approved the highly contentious Chinese research ship Yuan Wang 5 to land at the Hambantota Port despite India’s security worries on the ship’s presence in the island nation.

From August 11 to August 17, the ballistic missile and satellites tracking ship Yuan Wang 5 was scheduled to dock at the Hambantota port. The harbour master of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority stated that the ship did not, though, arrive at the Hambantota port on time (SLPA).

India is worried that the Chinese ship’s monitoring gadgets could be used to spy on its military infrastructure. The Sri Lankan government requested that the Chinese government postpone the trip of its research ship to Hambantota Port “until further consultations” be held.

About Chinese Ship permission :

However, as per sources, the ship has been given permission by Sri Lanka’s foreign ministry to stop at Hambantota port from August 16 to 22. India dismissed China’s “insinuations” that New Delhi pressured Colombo to halt a scheduled visit by the research vessel, asserting that it will make decisions based on its security concerns.

While talking on behalf of the External Affairs Ministry, Arindam Bagchi said that Sri Lanka, as a sovereign country, makes its own independent decisions and that India will base its judgment of its security concerns on the regional circumstances, particularly in the border areas. This comment seems to pertain to the conflict over eastern Ladakh.

“Given our worries over security, this is a sovereign right of any country. We’ll decide what long-term best for us. This undoubtedly considers the situation that is now in existence in our region, especially in the border areas”.

In a subliminal reference to India, Wang Wenbin, a spokesman for the Chinese foreign ministry, stated that it was “senseless” to put pressure on Sri Lanka to forbid the ship from entering Hambantota.
