Bundelkhand’s first Tiger Reserve: UP govt. signal goes green

The Uttar Pradesh government has allowed the development of the first tiger reserve in Bundelkhand after the approval of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). In a meeting, chaired by CM Yogi Adityanath, the cabinet gave nod to notify Ranipur Tiger Reserve under Wildlife Protection Act,1972.

The tiger reserve will cover an area of 52,989.863 hectares. 29,958.863 hectares of land will be a buffering area for animals whereas 23.031 hectares will be the main land which was already under Ranipur wildlife sanctuary in Chitrakoot district.

In UP, the number of tigers in 2006 was 106 which increased to 173 in 2018.

The climate of Bundelkhand region is tropical dry decidous forests which is very much suitable for Tigers, Reptiles, Deer and Mammals. Apart from that, you will find Spur fowl, Jungle fowl, Fishing Cat,etc.

The UP government said, this upgradation and development of tiger reserve will welcome Eco-tourism which is low in this region. If once tourism is well established, it will also open employment opportunities for locals.
