At UNSC Meet, India Slams Pakistan And China For Double Standards On Terrorism

According to Reports, India criticised China and Pakistan during the UN Security Council meeting on terrorism, accusing them of “double standards” and “hypocrisy” on the topic. With regard to the “practice of placing holds and blocks on identifying requests without giving any justification”.

India’s ambassador to the UN, Ruchira Kamboj, said, “It is most unfortunate that genuine and proof listing proposals relating with some of the most notorious terrorists in the world are being asked to wait”.

Abdul Rehman Makki, the second leadership of the Lashkar-e-Tayyiba, had earlier this year been prevented from being named by the UN by China. China has technically put Makki on hold for a six-month period. Beijing had earlier ordered New Delhi to put Maulana Masood Azhar of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) on hold, and it took ten years.

Ambassador Ruchira claims “Due to double standards and continuous politicisation, the confidence of the sanctions regime has fallen to an all-time low. When it comes to this collective efforts against international terrorism, we genuinely hope that sooner rather than later, all UNSC members are allowed to speak with a single voice.” It is important to remember.

The ambassador brought up Pakistan, specifically mentioning the “Despite being on the list of countries subject to UNSC 1267 Sanctions Committee, state hospitality” was offered to terrorists in a “neighbouring country. “The UN’s 1267 committee has one of the most Pakistanis on its list of foreign terrorists”.

Masood Azhar, Hafiz Saeed, and Zaki ur Rehman Lakhvi are among of individuals responsible for terror attacks in India, such as the 26/11 Mumbai terror assault. Islamabad has asked the UNSC for allowance for many of them. She pleaded with the international community, “Such hypocrisy.. when the terrorist threat looms large in each of our countries”.

On October 28 and 29, the UN’s counter terror committee will host a special meeting in Mumbai and Delhi, the ambassador declared in her remarks. The nature of the threat, the gaps in member states’ capability, best practises, and the exploration of further possible actions to effectively deal with this issue will be the main topics of discussion during the meeting. India is in charge of the Counter-Terrorism Committee.

During her remarks, she also brought up the latest attacks on the Gurudwara in Kabul, calling them “extremely troubling.” Many members of the minority population have migrated to India in quest of protection as a result of the repeated attacks in Afghanistan on Sikhs and Gurudwaras.

The envoy emphasised that the “peace and stability of the region are directly threatened by linkages between groups identified by the UNSC, such as the Lashkar-e-Tayyaba and the Jaish-e-Mohammed, as well as outrageous comments made by other terrorist groups operating out of Afghanistan”.
