After being barred from climbing Everest for faking a summit, an Indian climber has returned to “prove” himself, claiming AFP he did so to “prove” himself.
In May 2016, Narender Singh Yadav claimed to have climbed to the summit of the 8,849-meter (29,032-foot) mountain. However, images of the 26-year-old at the peak were later discovered to have been digitally manipulated, causing the Nepal authorities to downgrade his achievement. Yadav and two other climbers were given a six-year suspension that began in 2016, and this was his first year back on the mountain.

“There were many accusations levelled against me, which is why I (had to) prove myself by climbing Everest.”
Yadav claims he reached the summit, but claims his images were doctored and uploaded on social media after he was nominated for India’s coveted Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award in 2020.
The prize was then withdrawn, which Yadav described as “extremely distressing for me and my family.” On May 20, his suspension came to an end. He was on the summit seven days later, this time with a large cache of images and recordings to show his accomplishment.
“We gave him a certificate on Wednesday after he submitted enough evidence of his Everest summit,” said Bishma Raj Bhattrai of the Nepal tourist department.
Pemba According to Rita Sherpa, a guide with excursion organiser Pioneer Adventure, he was escorted by two guides instead of the typical one to ensure there were no disagreements.
“We shot a lot of pictures and videos of him,” he explained. “We need to say what is true. It’s about the reputation of our Sherpas and the firm as a whole.”
A successful Everest summit is the pinnacle of any climber’s career, and many go on to become motivational speakers and authors as a result of their achievements.
